My Approach
Let's create something new
Not every therapeutic approach works for everyone. Sometimes, typical therapeutic approaches can increase distress- especially when the presence of neurodiversity goes unrecognized and unsupported. Different neurotypes require different therapeutic and self care strategies. Understanding and working with these differences can increase confidence and self-esteem, and improve behaviors, relationships and quality of life.
Together, we can assess your world and make changes where possible, design and co-create strategies and techniques to fit your unique needs in ways that feel most natural to you. As you begin to understand your brain and how it experiences the world, you'll be better equipped to navigate daily challenges.
Knowledge is power! Keeping up with the latest research, as well as listening to those with lived experience, allows me to share the most up to date information and strategies with you.
What to expect
In the first few sessions, we'll spend time getting to know one another. I will listen deeply to your needs and concerns, we'll explore past experiences, your relationships, and your hopes for our work together. I'll take time to answer any questions you have about my experience and the services I provide. Together, we'll make a plan to move forward, working in whatever ways you feel most comfortable. We can work verbally or creatively, or allow our time together to evolve into some combination of the two.
If I'm working with your child, the first few sessions will consist of relationship building and assessment. It can be hard for children and teens to open up to a stranger! After meeting with you together and separately, I will work with your child at their level of development, using art, play, and/or conversation to create a connection and feelings of trust and safety to begin the work. I strongly encourage separate parent sessions to support the individual work being done with your child.
Why Temenos?
Temenos τέμενος is an ancient Greek word for a sacred and protected space or sanctuary. It's also been used to describe the safe space within the therapeutic relationship where healing work can take place. At Temenos Creative, Lara provides a safe healing space to explore, discover, create, and grow.
